A Quality Teacher Evaluation Program in Every School

Incentivizing Reforms

Over the long term, implementing quality educator evaluation programs will lead to a stronger teaching force and greater student growth.

Educator evaluation programs that result in constructive feedback and quality professional development are a crucial element to transforming the teaching profession.  Such programs will also play a crucial role in closing the achievement gap and increasing academic growth overall.

Federal policy makers should continue encouraging states and school districts to move forward with quality evaluation programs that measure student growth, including offering financial incentives through programs, such as Race to the Top, as a condition of certain funding through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), or to receive a flexibility waiver from the requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB).   Over the long term, implementing quality educator evaluation programs will lead to a stronger teaching force and greater student growth.
